Voco Orchard Singapore reveals transformation from Hilton Singapore

It’s all change at Singapore’s long-standing Hilton hotel, as the landmark fifty year old property – yes, it opened in 1970 – becomes an IHG Voco as of January 1, 2022.

And while there’s plenty that will seem familiar, visitors to what will be known as the Voco Orchard Singapore can expect an overdue refresh to all 423 rooms with a new look in keeping with Voco’s positioning as an "upscale lifestyle brand."

Voco is also keeping the Hilton’s Level 22 Club Lounge, with access for guests booked into an upper floor Club Room or Suite – although there’s no access for IHG Rewards members staying in non-Club rooms, even if they hold the program’s top Spire Elite status.

Inheriting the Hilton's established footprint near the western end of bustling Orchard Road "was the ideal choice" for the city-state’s first Voco hotel says Stephen Lau, chairman of Singapore-based hotelier and investment holding company Hotel Properties Limited.

"It's extremely popular with leisure and business travellers and it will fit perfectly in such a prime shopping and entertainment area."

Guests can look forward to elegant bathroom amenities from Apotheke, sustainability touches such as bamboo toothbrushes, and shampoos and soaps in refillable dispensers rather than single-use throwaway bottles.

When you’re hungry, the hotel offers a selection of five restaurants and two bars in addition to the customary in-room dining option.

Also remaining from the Hilton days are the property’s five restaurants and two bars, including Opus Bar and Grill for steaks and sustainably caught seafood, and the more elegant environment of the ‘il Ceilo’ Italian rooftop restaurant.

As for the Hilton, it’s not leaving Singapore: in another make-over, the Mandarin Orchard Singapore located at 333 Orchard Road (on the block between Orchard Link and Grange Road) will become the new Hilton Singapore Orchard when a $150 million make-over is completed in early 2022.

With over 1,000 rooms, it’s set to become the brand’s Asia-Pacific flagship.

The Hilton Orchard Singapore website lists over a dozen different room types, starting with the entry-level 34mKing Deluxe Room and three variations of Executive Rooms to four styles of Suite, topped by the palatial 154mPresidential Suite.

There'll also be an Executive Lounge for premium room guests and Hilton Honors Diamond members, and of course, ample space for meetings and events.

The Hilton Singapore Orchard will complement the Conrad Centennial Singapore at Marina Bay, and the Hilton Garden Inn Singapore, in the heart of Little India.

IHG branding is starting to confuse me.  They are now out to 16 different brands with crossover everywhere.  For example I don't know the product difference between a Regent and an Intercontinental or an Indigo and a Voco.  As someone who regularly stays in both, I can't even see much difference between a Crowne Plaza and a Holiday Inn.

I agree, not sure how the fine the difference is between the Voco being a premium upscale lifestyle brand where each hotel has its own unique character, and the Hotel Indigo being a premium upscale lifestyle brand where each hotel has its own unique character! But then a lot of hotel groups are like this, Accor probably takes the cake for that confusing laundry list of brands.

The Hilton Singapore was showing its age and let's be honest, the location is a bit 'the wrong end of Orchard Road', certainly the wrong few blocks, and it might have been a good location for business travellers decades ago but now the CBD is more seriously developed and devolved, especially with the built-up financial district around Raffles Place. I think the new Hilton Singapore Orchard is in a good location and will be a better fit than the old one.

Agree with QFP1, I used to favor the Hilton due to my Diamond status but it was past its prime, and traffic around the area was insane for taxis or Uber (later Grab) during peak hours every day of the week including weekends. Looking forward to checking into and checking out the new Hilton Singapore next year when we can get back there!

Probably my least favourite Hilton. Won’t miss it.
