Peninsula revs up chauffeur-driven Mini Coopers

Sick of the Rolls Royce? Tired of the black Merc? How about a chauffer-driven custom MINI Cooper S Clubman for your next hotel stay?

The Peninsula New York and Chicago have unveiled two customised MINI Cooper S Clubman vehicles. They're part of the deal if you book a suite (from $US1,375 per night at rack rate), allowing you to take a spin around town for a concierge-designed sightseeing tour or shopping for up to three hours a day.

The custom MINI Clubmans are finished in Peninsula Green with Green EverFlex leatherette upholstery; they have a mini fridge in the back with refreshments and cold towels, an iPod/iPhone connection at both front and rear for guest use, a roofrack box to carry your shopping, and illuminated Peninsula logos on the door entry sills.

And if you do suffer the misfortune of the MINI getting a flat, your chauffeur will be able to continue driving on the run-flat tyres, rather than having to send a less exciting car to come and collect you.

The Peninsula New York is also offering a free second night for anyone who books a two-night suite-level stay.

"At The Peninsula Hotels, we believe the journey is part of the adventure. With transportation options ranging from rooftop helicopters and helipads to rare vintage cars and our bespoke Rolls-Royce Phantoms, we have made innovative and luxurious transportation part of the Peninsula signature experience. Our new MINIs offer Peninsula signature style along with that extra bit of flair and fun," said Peter Borer, Chief Operating Officer of The Peninsula Hotels.

The Peninsula Hotels have quite a range of interesting cars in use around the world -- the Hong Kong hotel has a fleet of 14 Rolls-Royce Phantoms and four 1934 Rolls-Royce Phantom IIs belonging to The Peninsula Hong Kong, The Peninsula Tokyo, The Peninsula Shanghai and The Peninsula Paris.

The custom MINIs were first put into service at The Peninsula Hong Kong in December last year, and after they debut in New York and Chicago, they'll roll out to The Peninsula Tokyo in January 2011.
