Priority Pass now gets you into Sydney Airport's T2 Rex Lounge

Priority Pass cardholders jetting through Sydney Airport can now access Regional Express’ Rex Lounge in Terminal 2 to relax and unwind before their flight.
Situated past security screening, the lounge welcomes Priority Pass passengers travelling from Sydney with any airline – including not only Regional Express, but also Virgin Australia, Jetstar, Fly Corporate and FlyPelican, which all fly from Terminal 2 at Sydney Airport.
Passengers departing on Qantas and QantasLink flights from Terminal 3 could also choose to visit this lounge in T2 as these terminals are a short walk apart, although this approach would require two rounds of security screening as Terminals 2 and 3 aren’t linked airside: so allow extra time.
Located near gate G2, passengers can find the Rex Lounge by turning right after clearing the terminal’s main security screening point, and following the signs.
This lounge opens at 5:30am Monday to Friday, 6am on Saturday and 8am on Sunday, closing at 7pm daily – so if you're visiting during those opening hours, you'll find a range of seats inside, many of which are geared towards relaxation…

Business facilities available include computer terminals…
… and a small number of laptop benches, although access to power is limited here, and these are also positioned right next to a TV:
On the food and beverage front, there’s Nespresso coffee, juices, soft drinks, iced tea and flavoured milk, joined by wine and beer from 3pm, plus a range of light bites and snacks throughout the day such as cereals, yoghurts, fruit, potato chips, chocolates and cheese and cracker packs.

The Rex Lounge is the only lounge accessible by Priority Pass cardholders in Sydney, although the program does also offer $36 of dining credit at Bistro 2020 & Bar and MoVida in Terminal 2, along with outlets in other terminals, which each count as one ‘lounge visit’ under your membership.

An unlimited Priority Pass membership will set you back US$409 (A$531) each year, although many high-end credit cards offer this at no extra cost, with the American Express Platinum Charge Card being the most generous, offering two unlimited memberships per card.
AMEX Platinum Charge Card holders can also present their AMEX card (not their Priority Pass card) for access to Virgin Australia's lounge in the same terminal, but only when travelling onward on a Virgin Australia flight.
Regional Express’ other lounges, located in Melbourne and Adelaide, are not currently participating in the Priority Pass program.

Would I be right in saying this is an incredibly small facility? While Priority Pass should be applauded in growing their footprint in Australia, I hope that one day we will see access to a lounge in T1 in Sydney.

It's not a huge facility: if I were making comparisons I'd say it's probably about the size of the Qantas Club in Rockhampton, although the thing I enjoyed most on my last visit to the Rex Lounge in Sydney was the peace and quiet.
The terminal can be so noisy, as can the Virgin Australia lounge with constant boarding calls and plenty of travellers and TVs inside, but the Rex Lounge avoids most of that, and if looking to do some serious work on my laptop, I'd probably pick the Rex Lounge to work in over the Virgin lounge.

Indeed it is a small facility, about the same size as a public facility in fact. Was a lounge member but gave up on poor old REX years ago, However no lounge the other end of the flights I took (Ballina), the cheapest possible cheese & crackers, and American-style "coffee". On top of wildly varying (and optimistic) fares for that sector. A very rural waiting room.

Don't you just love a lounge with all those see through windows for the hoi polloi trundling past to peer in, can't stand gawkers!!!
Being a private sanctuary, I think it's a good hallmark not to have people able to look inside, and if they are worried about loosing natural light, frost them out on the lower parts.

It does seem to me that the principal (or only) advantage of this lounge over others is the peace and quiet. It otherwise looks pretty basic, with no hot food, basic coffee, limited alcoholic beverage service and stone-age computers.

I have never been in there, but the addition of Melbourne’s Rex lounge in T4 would be a godsend for those of us forced to fly Jetstar.

How do you actually access the lounge? The entry point requires an access code and fingerprint id and I have seen others enter this way. There is a big sign that says the Rex Lounge welcomes Priority Pass but no direction as to who lets you in. Is it the workers sitting at the Rex information desk? I assume the lounge attendant is inside the lounge, but you can't get in without a code. Any one know how this works for PP members?
