Qantas Perth lounge now open to Virgin Australia frequent flyers

Qantas Perth lounge now open to Virgin Australia frequent flyers

A Qantas lounge opening its doors to Virgin Australia frequent flyers? No, you're not dreaming.

Gold and Platinum members of Virgin Australia’s Velocity Frequent Flyer program can now use the Qantas International Business Lounge at Perth Airport when travelling on Etihad’s new direct flights to Abu Dhabi.

As Etihad lacks its own lounge in Perth, the Gulf airline is sending its first and business class passengers – along with Etihad Guest Gold and Gold Elite flyers, and now Velocity Gold and Platinum members – to the Qantas lounge in Perth’s T1 international terminal.

To make things easy, Velocity Gold and Platinum guests receive a Qantas lounge invitation from Etihad when checking-in at the airport.

Access is available whether travelling to Abu Dhabi on an Etihad (EY) or Virgin Australia (VA) flight number, but a Virgin Australia spokesperson strongly recommended to Australian Business Traveller that all Gold and Platinum guests show their Velocity card at the Etihad check-in desk.

That’s because you’ll need to pick-up a lounge invite before heading through passport control – if you head airside without one, you’ll be stuck in the food court until your flight boards.

Lounge entry is also subject to capacity constraints as passengers on Qantas’ seasonal Auckland flights plus those on Jetstar, Jetstar Asia, Malaysia Airlines, Cathay Pacific, Emirates and even Air New Zealand can use the Qantas lounge at Perth International.

Velocity Gold and Platinum members jetting to Singapore and beyond with Singapore Airlines can continue to use the SQ SilverKris Lounge in Perth.

Are you aware that the Perth IBL is cramped?

Oh, for crying out loud. They already have the QP there, almost nobody else has a lounge there, so why not just keep the door open and the trade rolling with the partner access?

Seriously, it's not like they have to worry about their own passengers on their own flights because they don't have any (for most of the year, though I hope the SIN flight comes back).

Yes, it does make sense to make some dollars off your lounge. Particularly if you ain't making full use of it.

What time does the QF International Business Lounge shut? There are a couple of late evenings CX flights that uses that lounge.

Just asking cos I've been in Perth this past month and after 9pm, everything pretty much shuts. Got shood out of restaurants by 8.30pm...are establishments here all on eastern time?

This is Perth, don't forget, they operate to a totally different set of rules.

The QF IBL is always crammed (with pax from other airlines) and is only a small step up from the horrendous, flourescent light-filled hell of a cheap and nasty food court that's supposed to be an international terminal.

Horrible place!

It is a rare occasion that QF use their own lounge at Perth international.

Rare indeed as there are no Qantas International flights from Perth.  And as I was recently told by lounge staff, jetstar is not considered a "mainline" airline so the lounge closes if there are no "partner airline flights."  We had to leave the lounge and wait for our delayed jetstart flight in the very crowded gate area.  Yet another reason not to fly jetstar.
