Skywest adds new Kalgoorlie-Perth flight

Skywest Airlines will add a third daily flight between Kalgoorlie and Perth starting Monday January 21.

A revision to the regional airline's timetable will see a new Monday morning service (flight XR80) depart Kalgoorlie at 7am for an 8am arrival into Perth.

This will supplement the existing 8.40am (XR82) and 6pm (XR84) Kalgoorlie-Perth flights.

"Since the introduction of our twice daily jet service to Kalgoorlie in July 2012, we have been delighted with the response from business and leisure customers alike" said Skywest CEO Jason Bitter, observing that the new 7am Monday service "will be of significant benefit to Kalgoorlie travellers, in particular enabling our corporate customers to benefit from a full business day in Perth."

Skywest will also tweak the timing of its Friday Perth-Kalgoorlie-Melbourne flight (XR21) to depart Perth 90 minutes later than the current schedule, at 10:30am.

This will arrive in Melbourne at 6.15pm during daylight savings and 5.15pm in winter – "still in time for the footy", the airline notes!

In March this year Virgin Australia is expected to finalise its take-over of Perth-based Skywest, rebranding it under the Virgin Australia marquee and setting it head to head against Qantas' regional arm QantasLink.
