Introduction
Part of the massive Japanese conglomerate Tokyu, the Capitol Hotel Tokyu is the flagship property of its hotel division, offering every service you could want in a modern luxury 5-star hotel – and more.
With almost 50 properties as part of the Tokyu brand, the company also operates its own rewards program called Tokyu Comfort. However if you’re not a member of this program, you are able to earn ANA Mileage Club points through bookings made with the hotel when presenting your Mileage Club card at check-in.
Location & Impressions
The Capitol Hotel Tokyu is in a prestigious location adjacent to the Prime Minister’s official residence in the Akasaka business district.
From Narita airport the hotel is roughly 75 minutes by car or public transport, and about 25 minutes from Haneda in a car or 40 minutes by public transport. If you can get yourself to Tokyo Station, a short 10 – 15 minute cab ride will also see you deposited at The Capitol Hotel Tokyu.
The hotel itself occupies a 29-storey tower, with plenty of greenery at the drive-up entrance. The bulk of the guest rooms are located from floors 18 to 29, with the top three floors reserved for suites and club rooms, as well as the club lounge. There are also a small handful of suites on the fifth floor.

The Capitol Hotel Tokyu has just 251 guest rooms, giving it a boutique feel. With no skyscrapers in the immediate vicinity, guests are treated to stunning views across Tokyo, the Imperial Palace and the National Diet Building, and on certain days you can even get glimpses of Mt Fuji if you’re staying in the right part of the hotel.
The entrance lobby on the third floor is expansive and decidedly ‘Japanese Modern’. The Capitol Hotel Tokyu has a sophisticated but relaxed vibe, and we found that the staff in all of our encounters go out of their way to make you feel welcome and at home.

Additionally, the hotel sits on top of the subway, with 4 subway lines accessible directly from the basement of the building. This makes it very easy to use as a base if you’re going to be moving around a lot in Tokyo.
Room
After checking in, I head up to my Club Deluxe King room on the 28th floor – all Club Rooms are located on the topmost floors of the hotel, from the 27th floor through to the 29th floor.

The room is spacious, especially considering we’re in Tokyo. All rooms in The Capitol Hotel Tokyu are a minimum of 45sqm, making them feel almost like a small apartment rather than a hotel room.
The décor continues the ‘Japanese Modern’ theme, with light coloured wood, tatami doors and textured dark carpeting throughout.
The king bed is comfortable, and there’s a couple of lounge chairs and an ottoman for relaxing. A small side table can also be used if you’d prefer to have breakfast in your room in the mornings.

A large dressing area features a sink, mirrors and amenities for getting ready in the mornings, with plenty of wardrobe space for keeping clothes at hand.

A sliding tatami-style door allows you to close off the bathroom area when in use, which also helps prevent the room from feeling closed in.

Electronic window shade controls and light switches are provided in a convenient centralised unit on the bedside table...

...and there’s also a ‘Handy’ phone and Bluetooth Bose speaker available if you wish to make use of them.

Work
Internet speed was around 15-20 MBps during my stay, and was plenty fast enough for streaming or uploading large files.
The desk in the room is large, but there's no height-adjustable chair and wooden fixtures directly in front of your legs.

Instead, I found it preferable to work in the club lounge.

Booking a club room gives you access to many privileges, including a very generous food and drink program.

A business centre on the lobby level also gives you access to basic computers and printing facilities if required.
Eat
The food at the Capitol Hotel Tokyu was fantastic – from the complimentary breakfast, to the food and drinks in the club lounge, it was difficult to fault the service and the quality of what was provided.
There are 3 restaurants on-site, with all day dining available at Origami, as well as Japanese at Suiren and Chinese cuisine at Star Hill.
You can choose to have your breakfast in your room, as I did on one occasion:

Or you can choose to have it in the club lounge or in the hotel’s on-site restaurant. In any case, there’s a wide variety of both Western options...

The staff are also happy to help recommend and book restaurants for you, and there’s plenty of nearby options in the Akasaka area.
Relax
If you’re looking to unwind, The Capitol Hotel Tokyu has plenty of options for relaxing. A fitness club and spa on the 14th and 15th floor offers up a swimming pool, exercise equipment and spa treatments in a relaxed setting.

There’s plenty of options for relaxation in the immediate vicinity, including the shrine next door and the nearby Imperial Gardens.
Overall
The Capitol Hotel Tokyu is one of our favourite hotels in Tokyo, thanks to its relaxing atmosphere and wide range of amenities. Staff at the hotel are efficient and helpful, and the quality of food, drinks and accommodation provided are top notch. Our recommendation is to opt for a club room so that you can take full advantage of everything the hotel offers.

I've been here myself. Its a fantastic hotel. The rooms are excellent, the architecture and views are wonderful, and the location is immensely convenient. Its also the cheapest 5-star hotel in Tokyo and easily the best value.
