Watch Delta's new Internet-meme safety video

Watch Delta's new Internet-meme safety video

Delta Air Lines has dipped its toe into the 'wacky safety video' waters with a clip packed full of Internet memes.

From keyboard cats and dancing babies to the (thankfully short-lived) Harlem Shake dance craze, the video is bound to mystify almost anybody over the age of 40, but for anybody plugged into the Internet culture it's likely to be a must-watch and must-watch-over-again video.

And after all, that's the whole aim of these shorts – although they're increasingly made to go viral via social media and be seen by people who'll probably never fly with the airline.

Delta has even roped in Laina Walker, the famous face of the Overly Attached Girlfriend meme.

That just adds to my list of reasons to not fly Delta.

Why that is amazing

Good, because if you don't appreciate a good airline then it's best you don't fly them.

6 minute safety video, seriously? I find announcements annoying so the shorter the better for me. Wait...I just realised I'm over 40!

Under 40, but gave up trying to keep up with whatever dumb crap is going around the internet circa All Your Bare Are Belong To Us (which, face it, was hilarious).

This has the flavour of all those eighties commercials trying to convince us that Unilever's latest breakfast cereal is "Radical" and "Tubular".

I must admit I found this pretty funny, however I can see how this will completely go over some peoples heads.

An interesting move from DL.

My life is now complete that a Doge meme has been used in an airline safety video though. haha.

That is so awesome! Very, very clever of DL and their marketing team (who I'm sure had a hand in this).

The cat in the shark suit on the Roomba, Doge, the hamster with his little tray table! Love it all.

NZ have quirky videos, this is clever.

One thing Delta's safety videos makes me think - why haven't they switched all their life vests to be the one style? Would simplify their safety announcements, and having only one style of vest would mean easier ordering replacements right?

I understood most of the memes, some I missed completely. I think Virgin America wins for me at the moment. Air NZ hasn't been as good as their Bare Essentials of Safety but still better than anything going locally. I thought Thompson Air's video with the kids was pretty awesome too.
