Vodafone unveils new mobile broadband 4G WiFi Cube

Here's a new way to get your team connected at conferences, trade shows, temporary on-site offices and anywhere else you need high-speed Internet to share.

Vodafone's Huawei 4G WiFi Cube sucks down a fast 4G signal and squirts it out over WiFi to as many as 32 devices with a range up to 200 metres, although the more people connect to it the slower the WiFi will be.

This personal 4G hotspot can also help you dodge those typically rapacious Internet fees levied by conference organisers and the like.

Unfortunately the Cube doesn't pack out the fastest 802.11ac 5GHz WiFi technology – it's limited to 802.11n on the crowded 2.4GHz band, which will also cruel the maximum signal to any device.

If your office or home suffers from a snail's pace Internet connection but falls within Vodafone's 4G footprint, the 4G WiFi Cube could also be a quick fix for the broadband blues.

(Outside of the 4G network the Cube will drop back to 3G or even 2G to keep you connected, albeit at slower speeds.)

At $90 a month on a 24 month contract you'll get the WiFi Cube with 25GB of data and no device repayments. Cheaper plans with a lower data cap as well as 12 month contracts are also available, or you can buy the WiFi Cube for a straight $159 and drop in a pre-paid Vodafone data SIM.

Vodafone says its 4G network now covers 95% of Australia's metropolitan population, and our own tests in the Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane CBDs and airports has seen average download speeds around 34Mbps, which is almost four times as fast as a conventional wired ADSL connection.
