Delta is taking a leaf out of Air New Zealand's book with an inflight safety video that's all but guaranteed to get you watching.
The US airline's 1980's-themed video clip is packed with memories – and perhaps a few things things you'd rather forget – as well as a few special guest stars who you might not even recognise thanks to the passage of years.
Delta's dazzling and dare we say totally awesome video follows Virgin America's funky song and dance number which could have come straight from an episode of Glee (or Fame, if we stick to Delta's 1980s theme).
It's even a bit interactive, with several Australian Business Traveller readers reporting being on Virgin America flights where the cabin crew mime and dance their way through the video.
As with AirNZ's famed Betty White, Bear Grylls and Hobbits videos, Delta and Virgin America are hoping for a solid dose of viral marketing voom alongside the inflight safety aspects.

I've always liked DL's current 'series' of safety videos - they're straight to the point, refined and not so annoying for the frequent traveller, yet funny, witty and attention-grabbing for the not so frequent. This 80's remix, while more humour-laden, was still so. The references rocked my legwarmers off!
I can't say the same for VX - the "in case you don't know how to put on a seatbelt" line just screams condessending no matter how you put at it. Also VA and QF and learn a bit from DL - whether it's the odd animation and the Richard Branson cameo for the former, the cringing John Travolta & cricket shambles for safety videos for the latter.

Video stuck in the 80s, dated cabins...would be quite appropriate for United's trans-Pacific offering out of Sydney...

Points for effort to be a bit different but I found it all a bit tedious...perhaps because I can remember most of those dated references they used.
