New Westpac cardholders applying for an American Express Westpac Altitude Black bundle will find it even easier to score up to 120,000 bonus Qantas Points – or 120,000 bonus Altitude points, equal to 60,000 Virgin Australia Velocity points – under the bank’s latest card offer.
That’s because the minimum spend requirements to qualify for the full bonus have now been reduced, yet the offer stays strong at up to 120,000 Qantas Points or 120,000 Altitude points: so you don’t need to spend as much to take home that bounty.
Here’s how it works now – apply for the Altitude Black dual card combo by November 27 2018, and spend $3,000 on the Westpac Altitude Black Mastercard (issued and serviced by Westpac) within 90 days of card approval, to earn 80,000 bonus Qantas or Altitude points.
Under the bank’s previous offer, a higher spend of $5,000 was required on this card to earn the same number of bonus points, with the new offer giving you your bonus points even sooner.
Separately, spending $3,000 on the American Express Westpac Altitude Black Card (issued and serviced by American Express) within 90 days of card approval unlocks its own serve of 40,000 bonus Qantas or Altitude points, which is the same as before.
Meet the spending requirements on both cards and that’ll deliver up to 120,000 Qantas points, or 120,000 Altitude points: worth 60,000 Velocity points when converted across at a 2:1 basis.
A full 120,000 Qantas Points is enough to take a return business class trip to parts of Asia: such as from Sydney to Singapore or Hong Kong, flying Qantas business class in both directions.
Choose Altitude Rewards and convert your points to Velocity instead and you'd wind up with 60,000 bonus frequent flyer points: more than enough for a return economy class trip from Sydney or Melbourne to Hong Kong with Virgin Australia, or a one-way business class flight on the same routes.
New American Express Westpac Altitude Platinum bundle offer
The sign-up offer on the Westpac Altitude Platinum two-card bundle has also been extended, with eligible new cardholders able to earn up to 75,000 bonus Qantas or Altitude points, with savings to be had on the annual fee, too.
Apply for the Platinum card combo by November 27 2018 and spend $3,000 on eligible purchases using the Westpac Altitude Platinum Visa (issued and serviced by Westpac) within 90 days of card approval to unlock 60,000 bonus Qantas or Altitude points, to get things started.
Spending an additional $3,000 on the American Express Westpac Altitude Platinum Card (issued and serviced by American Express) within 90 days of card approval provides its own serve of 15,000 bonus Qantas or Altitude points, giving you up to 75,000 bonus points at the end of the day.
While not getting you as far as Asia, choose Qantas and you could still take a return business class trip from Australia's east coast to New Zealand – such as flying return to Auckland – or convert your points to Velocity, and you'd have enough for a one-way business class flight with Virgin Australia from Sydney to Perth, including Airbus A330 flights offering The Business:
Normally, this two card package attracts a total annual fee of $199 if earning Altitude points – broken down as $150 for the Visa plus $49 for the AMEX – or $249 if earning Qantas Points, being $199 plus a $50/year “Qantas Rewards Fee” – but in the first year, the standard $199 annual fee is waived.
That means you’ll pay no annual charges in the first year if earning Altitude points (such as for conversion to Velocity), and if you choose to earn Qantas Points, you’ll pay only the $50 Qantas Rewards Fee in year one, but not the $149 and $50 annual card fees.
