My partner applied in Feb this year for the Etihad status match offer (from VA platinum) but didn't hear anything. Then randomly this morning he received an email from Etihad saying he was upgraded to Etihad gold status. He hasn't flown Etihad at all recently and nowhere near even qualifying for silver so I'm not sure why they would process an upgrade. Just wondering if anyone else had the same thing or knows why this would be!

I think your answer is in your first sentence: "My partner applied in Feb this year for the Etihad status match offer..."
I guess it just took them a while to get around to it!
