The best place to start is http://travel.state.gov/visa/temp/without/without_1990.html.That is the US Department of State web site for the Visa Waiver Program.

Basically, as long as you are not disqualified from obtaing a visa, no criminal convictions and apply for and receive a ESTA (about US$14) before you leave then you should be fine.

But you can not do anything that would be classed as work. Check the web site for exact requirements and conditions.

a criminal conviction can be something like a drink driving charge also, don't make the mistake of skimping over any details, they can and will turn you around and send you back where you came from if your paperwork isn't one hundred percent in order
