Similar scenario was, when Etihad was using a VA 777 between AUH and KUL.

If they can do that, why not bolster their A330 fleet? At least it's relevant to their network beyond BNE-LAX.

Go lease them? If it's so easy to borrow planes from EK surely you can shuffle in some A330s like snap.
On a more serious note, though, I understand that JQi is contracting somewhat, with some of the Jetstar Asia widebody runs being pulled. Perhaps a rationalisation of JQi's timetable could allow some of them to be returned early.
