Flying from Sydney to Vancouver and I want to stop over in Honolulu for a day. Is Hawaiian Airlines a good choice?

Hawaiian is a good choice if you want to (need to) go to Hawaiii in the shortest possible time. 

It would however not be my first choice of airline for a transpacific flight.

But then again "good" is relative. 

HI might be best choice if stopping in HNL - you get good value through fare to mainland ports, and outer islands if wanted. QF also possible, with travel beyond HNL on AA or US metal.  If you're in business class, QF will have better seats than HI when a330's replace 763's. Until then much of a muchness on board.

Also, Hawaiian don't fly HNL-YVR. The only airlines that operate that sector direct are Air Canada and Westjet
