Always a possibility which I imagine would be perfect in a Boeing 787-8 with its excellent operating economics and fuel burn.

I could definitely see a 787-8 put on the route, considering there are no other direct flights from Brisbane and the aircraft would probably suit the route well in terms of size and offering. I wouldn't be surprised if it's a possibility- look at all the long, thin routes the plane has been put on in the US- Boston, San Diego...

Doubt it, the Japanese are pretty well "over" Australia. The last flights were by JALways, the low-cost operation from memory, and even that didn't work.
