Do those who have had Gold (or even Platinum) gifted to them receive a 'soft landing'? E.g. Hudson is currently Bronze, receives Gold for a year from a friend/relative, fails to earn enough for renewal and then floats gently down to Silver.

Yes, I know for sure that Velocity will honour soft landings in these circumstances. I take it QF and others would too

AA certainly discontinued soft landings for elites as of last year - this would portend of an imminently ominous situation for other carriers' elites, particularly perhaps those within the OneWorld camp such as QF that may choose to follow suit.

There should be no soft landings under any circumstance.

qfflyer, your assumption is correct. My partner received partner gold last year with QF but I failed to make it for this year and she has dropped to silver as a result.
