HK J lounges with CX - we have 5.5 hours transit in HKG next week (arrive 8pm depart 1:30am) travelling between Brisbane and London, travelling J. What is the best CX J Lounge option for our transit, or should we perhaps be trying a couple of them? Which has the best food and drink offering, as reviews seem to suggest a different food theme at each?
Ah, five and a half hours – not enough time to really enjoy heading into HK itself, but a little too long to spend in the airport – well, at least you've got some good lounges to choose from.
As you're in business class you can check out the excellent Qantas lounge, Cathay Pacific's The Wing Business Class and at the other end of the airport, Cathay Pacific's The Bridge.
In normal circumstances the order in which you visit them could depend on which gate you arrive at (and in turn which transit area you use) and which gate your onwards CX flight departs from, but with 5+ hours there's ample time to stroll between lounges... still, you might want to plan your visits anyway, just to avoid needless walking back and forth.
QF HK lounge: you'll be arriving too late for the 'plate of the day' dinner, although the BBQ pork bar may still be open if you make this your first lounge and don't dally (Qantas or other readers here may be able to advise exactly when the BBQ pork bar closes).
The Wing has a great noodle bar and coffee loft, also decent drinks selection, while The Bridge has a good deli-style area.
Again, the article linked above can offer more info on each lounge.
Thanks David - re the QF Lounge, as I am travelling on CX J and don't have Gold/Platinum status on QF (no OW status), can I get entry? I had assumed I would be restricted to CX lounges only.
I have read your excellent reviews of the lounges, and all seem top notch - I was specifically looking for recommendations on the F&B side of things.
As Cathay Pacific and Qantas are both members of Oneworld, your business class boarding pass allows you entry into the business class lounges of both airlines – no need for shiny status :)
