Hi All,

I frequently travel between MEL - LHR as QF-P and was wondering what is everyone's thoughts on availability of upgrades to business on the 787 versus the a380, As there roughly 20 less business seats just wondering if this has had a significant impact.

I have a few trips coming up and wondering whether to go through SIN or PER as they are all self funded :)

Cheers,
Bren.

As a Platinum your chances are better than most.

It's typically hard to get an accurate prediction as to the chances more than a week out.

The SYD-DXB-LHR flights typically have higher loads than MEL-DXB-LHR. SYD-SIN-LHR will replace SYD-DXB-LHR, and the 787 service will fly MEL-PER-LHR

Whilst MEL-DXB-LHR has lower loads the 787 is a smaller plane and will pickup some passengers e.g. in PER that might not otherwise fly QF.

With more passengers on the A380 there are more passengers who may want an upgrade.

Some passengers who've booked Business may put in for upgrades to First.

There will be an A380 service flying MEL-SIN but if you take that you'll have a 6 hour wait for the SIN-LHR service. There is an A330 from MEL-SIN with a better connection time but it's a smaller plane with just economy and business.

Some passengers will only fly as far as SIN on QF.

Flying back the connection time from the LHR-SIN service to the A380 SIN-MEL service is better.

If travelling solo be sure to apply for an upgrade as late as at the gate. However this could mean you get an upgrade to PE (where available) instead of to Business if there are no Business upgrades left.

To maximise your chances try to fly at off-peak times of the year (avoid school holidays and peak holiday periods) and on off-peak days of the week.
