Is it me or is the Air Canada Aeroplan -> Altitude program so restrictive and disastrous for earning status miles now that we should just fly Air New Zealand premium economy?

Is it me or is the Air Canada Aeroplan -> Altitude program so restrictive and disastrous for earning status miles now that we should just fly Air New Zealand premium economy? The cost to receive full status miles is a bit rich

Surely the issue is not which airline you fly on, but which loyalty programme you're a member of?

If you're looking for Star Alliance Gold, whilst flying on Air Canada, how about joining Aegean, for their ultra-cheap 16,000 miles gold-for-life offer? (see http://www.ausbt.com.au/shortcut-to-star-alliance-gold-frequent-flyer-status )
