I am aware that domestic inflight entertainment lost their music album selection 4 years ago but just noticed the international route lost theirs in the last 2 years since i last flew with QF in 2020. Any ideas if this was previously announced or planned?

Yes, they decided to stop updating their IFE content for a while and also drop music to save costs during Covid.

There was a limited music selection on the 787 when I flew DRW-LHR three days ago.

Maybe the music availability depends on aircraft type?

I flew on A330. It is possible that it’s different with different equipment, although I would be surprised that QF bothers to load different inflight entertainment setup for different planes.

I wonder if the music selection you saw were the music documentaries/ videos under TV rather than music audio from albums

Definitely audio. It had a selection of albums, musical genres (jazz, classical etc) and audio books.

I normally fly 737/A330s and I’ve been disappointed by the lack of music on those aircraft. I was pleasantly surprised to find a small musical offering on the 787.
