I’ve been VA Plat for more than a decade. One of the great perks has been the free upgrades to business class. In the past these have always been valuable. Not withstanding Covid, never has a year gone by when I haven’t used all four.
Now though the perk has turned sour. It’s near impossible to find a flight on the east coast with any award availability - at least one within a realistic timeframe.
I’m sure the airline would say I need to book well in advance… but how far? Seems like six months out offers some availability. Nearer alternatives seem only to be at times of the day around 6:00am. Not exactly rewarding.
Keen to know if other Plats are having difficulty finding flights to use their upgrades on. Are they going to waste?
I'm having this issue atm. Have 10 seperate flights booked over the next 6 months, all various origin/destinations and simply can't find one segment to upgrade on. Saying that, the call centre is useless.

Used 2 to upgrade a choice fare BNE-SYD. 3 weeks in advance.
Still have 6 to use. Not worth it until they introduced the option to upgrade choice fares.
