Because in the warped BCG matrix analysis of the company the Board has decided that QFi are dogs and Jetstar is a problem-child. So best give it the kick up now before they turn in the dogs of the future.

No, it's because JQi needs to have the lowest cost base to keep offering low fares; because QFi is a full-service carrier it can charge higher fares to cover the cost of operating older aircraft.
Frankly, those A330s are needed badly, and if they weren't being wasted on twice-weekly SYD-CNS-KIX runs and such, they would make excellent QFi metal for the Asia-Pacific.

The interesting thing will be how the fit out the ex-JQ A330s coming online in the next few weeks. We know the new Business Suite isn't ready yet, so does that mean they will install the hateful 2-3-2 with "workstations"? A truly woeful Business product.
I love my Qantas, but EBO, S, P, and are shockers.
