Been there before, in P and U. There's no guarantee those will go back into inventory after a cancellation. So despite the best of your intentions I doubt anyone will be able to benefit from this. Regards
I disagree. I have tried this a number of times on a number of airlines: SQ, VA, EY, BA, EK, VS, and QF. Those that I can remember. QF was the only airline that did NOT release award inventory post cancellation. I haven't tried it on a domestic booking with QF yet. But here are the routes that I did this just in the last two months:
DXB-MEL-CBR in U, LHR-DXB-SYD in P, SYD-DXB-LHR in P. None came back.

Heads up - Release QF LHR/DXB & DXB/MEL U inventory.
I'm about to release within 24h one each QF LHR/DXB and QF DXB/MEL U inventory for 28 Dec 2014.
Travel plans have changed and I'm cancelling my redemption bookings. If anyone is interested.
QF won't allow LHR/MEL direct so you'll need to do make two separate bookings (with extra miles/points). Good luck!

Actually, QF is the only airline who does release award flights back into award inventory if somebody cancels!
