Hi Darryl,

One word answer - Rarely.

Since the retirement of the 767's the utilisation of widebodies on SYD-BNE-SYD has basically been reduced to nil. The only times you'll probably see widebodies on these flights is during peak perionds (school holidays, cricket etc.)

It's a shame that these flights are being operated by narrowbodies today but with only 16 A330-200's (which QF focuses on utilising on SYD-MEL-BNE-PER flights) you can understand why they are not utilised on SYD-BNE flights.

If you are as keen on the 330 as I am, there is one solution.

Save as much money as you can, and then take a certain flight from BNE to PER or vv.  Granted you have to fly back to BNE from PER or to SYD, but BNE to SYD is about Aud$350 or so, most non busy times.

While I was in BNE a few weeks ago, I had the chance to see the 330 from close up, and its a wonderful bird, that one.  I wasn't catching it, but it was just from a flight from PER, and was going back there.

Yes, a lot of the time, QF do swaps, but you can see Flight Aware for any swaps in the past 14 days.

I have done PER to MEL, dep PER at 16.45 or so, get to MEL 22.45, it was great to be able to see the sun set from the plane window.

Oops, sorry, BNE to PER, for that $350 or so, not BNE to SYD, sorry, can't edit.
