So, I was looking on my books...I can book Items before I fly or I can order food on board. Are the items that are Available on "Q-Eats" the same as on board, or is it a different menu? Eg on Q-Eats there is lobster tail and a good looking pork dish..will this be available in the air or do I have to book it?
@chap6595 To encourage you to pre-order, there is one extra dish (for each course?) which I believe is marked as such online. The rest is the same so you'd want to check to see if either of the two you mention are one of the pre-order specials otherwise you could be disappointed - I pre-order so I don't have to think on board, others perhaps so they don't miss out, but then have been asked by crew, at the time they are taking orders, if I would like to change my mind. I questioned this as defeating the purpose of planning catering and was told, "other passengers often do". I was surprised they allow this to occur but perhaps I am too accommodating or too practical.... for me, it's easy - just bring it out (and "surprise" me because often I have even forgotten what I ordered). They tell me that very few pre-order but perhaps it is now catching on?
PS I don't necessarily order the pre-order special dish; whatever takes my fancy (risking it is totally out of context for the way one feels when flying at altitude).
I'm fairly sure Q-eats mentions/states 'online exclusive' (or wording to that effect) options when an option is ONLY available via online Q-Eats. Those that are not labelled as such, are part of the inflight menu, but may not be available due to percentage loadings. Remember that meal option loadings encompass the total passengers booked on that flight. and airlines load meals on passenger numbers booked for that flight, NOT the number of seats in that cabin..It is a common misconception that regardless of how many passengers on board, airlines load food for a FULL load of pssengers and there will be lots of 'leftovers'... There is a MIX of options that make up the passenger load on that day. Q-eats gives you the opportunity to secure your choice available from the 'inflight menu', with the added 'online only' option/s.
The Select on Q-Eats system is a little tricky to navigate online, insofar as they don't make it terribly clear exactly which item is the online exclusive... It certainly isn't denoted in the menu list.
You have to select each menu item one-by-one, and look at the PICTURE of food that comes up next to it... In very small letters (white text against a red rectangle), there is a little icon that says "Online Exclusive", which denotes the item not available for a-la-carte dining on-board.
In fact, as I was searching for a screenshot of the system on Google Images, what should come up but our very own AusBT... which led me to this article which you might find helpful!

Thanks for updating Jay, without going online, I couldn't recall how obvious it is.
