Hi all,
I am relocating to HK for work soon and am looking to start a Cathay MPC membership as I will largely be flying CX going forward as it is the main carrier in HK. I am currently on ~10,000 QFF SCs and have QFF Lifetime Silver, with another ~4,000 SCs to go before I attain QFF Lifetime Gold.

I believe that Cathay may do a status match from my current QFF Platinum status to Cathay MPC Silver if I provide sufficient evidence/reasons.

Question is - what are the benefits/differences between using my  QFF Lifetime Silver vs. starting Cathay MPC Silver? If there aren't any, I may just decide to continue using my QFF profile to slowly work my way up to QFF Lifetime Gold. I believe both QFF & Cathay Silver are OW Ruby tiers. Should I even bother enrolling for Cathay MPC and requesting a status match?

Appreciate any thoughts and what you other travellers would do in my position. Thanks in advance.

Personally, I would keep with QF until I reach LTG.

If you use your QFF account for all CX travel your QF mileage accrual will be substantially slower than were you to accrue MPC points for CX bookings. It might depend how long you anticipate being in Asia. If longer term I would definitely switch to CX for this and other reasons (eg. QF's lack of regional network coverage, heavy Sydney bias etc).

As with all FF queries, it depends on what is important to you.  If MPC silver gives you something that is sufficiently important to you that you can't get from QF silver, then switch.  If it doesn't, keep going until you get QF LTG.

What IS important to you from the benefits available?  If you answer that, you may (a) answer your own question and/or (b) get some more helpful advice

Sorry if the above sounds snarky, it isn't meant to be - but different people have different priorities so it is rarely possible to give an objective "X is better than Y" when the benefits are so subjective in impact

Thanks for the comments. I am likely to be based out of HK and travelling in Asia for the next 2-3 years, which is why I am considering switching to Cathay MPC.

I completely agree with your comments. I guess for me, it would be priority check-in (at business/first counters), priority boarding, lounge (business/first) access and additional check-in baggage. I think MPC Silver might help with the lounge access since OW Ruby does not guarantee lounge access.

On a related note, can I make a booking on a CX Flight with my MPC membership number to earn the miles and MPC Credits, but upon check-in present my QFF Platinum card to gain lounge (First) access and the other requisite benefits of OW Emerald?

Thanks again in advance.

That is superb advice and viewpoints, thanks for sharing. I will heed your words and do exactly that, slogging slowly onwards towards QFF LTG. Thanks again!

MPC Silver receive Cathay Pacific/Dragonair (Cathay Dragon) Business Class Lounge access, but for Cathay Pacific/Dragonair marketed and operated flights ONLY. No Qantas Lounge access in HKG.
