So I got an email saying I have to have a PCR test no more than 40 hours before my flight from UAE to UK. Is that when it was taken or when results were received?
The below link should help. I think that should be 48 hours (?) and that is hours from when you take the test to when your flight is scheduled to depart. If you are transiting through UAE from somewhere else then the test must be taken before the first flight.
Current rule is no more than 48 hours prior to your flight's departure. If you have a long stop over it applies to the final flight, not the original. However rules seem to be changing at short notice

Taken. I wouldn't want to risk bending the rules and finding out at the airport.
