Crowne Plaza Canberra takes on apartment hotels

Crowne Plaza Canberra is muscling in on the niche Quest Apartments has carved for itself, with the unveiling of new one-bedroom suites with "extended stay service" for travellers staying longer than seven nights.

The six newly refurbished suites, now selling at promotional rates starting at $210 a night including breakfast, have a separate bedroom, a large lounge, LCD TV with pay TV and a kitchenette with microwave, stovetop, fridge and cooking utensils.

Guests of these suites get discounted undercover parking and in-room high-speed internet, as well as an in-room grocery shopping service at normal retail prices.

The hotel says the suites provide "all the creature comforts of home, with the conveniences of Crowne Plaza Canberra’s 24-hour extended stay services."

The round-the-clock hotel service is one area major hotels can win against the competition from apartment hotels, which have found a popular position with business travellers who appreciate the extra space of an apartment at prices similar to -- or less -- than a regular hotel room.

Crowne Plaza points out that it has 24-hour business centre, wireless internet in public areas, and free access for guests to the Pro-Fit Health Club fitness centre in the hotel, including pool, sauna, exercise equipment and group fitness classes.

There's also a spa -- something not usually found in apartment hotels!

There are four dining options in the hotel; a la carte or buffet dining at Redsalt Restaurant, pre-dinner drinks and tapas at the Binara one bar, coffee and snacks at the Atrium Lounge, and room service.

The Crowne Plaza is located in the middle of the city centre, overlooking Glebe Park, close to Canberra CBD's main shopping area, restaurants and major businesses can be found.
