As one of the flagship models in the Mercedes-Benz range, the S 500 e Plug-in Hybrid variant of the S-Class range has a lot to live up to. Known for being feature-packed with the latest in automotive technology, the all new S 500 e Plug-in Hybrid variant of the S-Class now introduces an electric motor to the drivetrain.

The benefits of this hybrid technology are three-fold – it delivers sensational dynamic performance and virtually silent operation when using the electric motor, while the driver enjoys the comfort and security of a large luxury sedan with similar fuel consumption figures as small city runabouts.

Just how efficient is the S 500 e Plug-in Hybrid? Its official fuel consumption figure is just 2.8L/100km*, and with its electric-only range of up to 33km it’s even possible to use no fuel for short trips or commutes.

The perfect match

Efficiency is one thing, but you might be thinking that there’s a catch when it comes to performance.

This isn’t the case with the S 500 e Plug-in Hybrid as it offers comparable performance to the V8 model, despite having a smaller V6 engine, thanks to the combination of the electric motor and combustion engine. The result is a total power output of 325 kW and 650 Nm of torque, which means acceleration to 100km/h is covered in a sprightly 5.2 seconds.

Once you’ve completed your trip, charging the S 500 e is simple – just plug it into a standard domestic wall socket to fully charge it in around 4 hours.

You can even have an optional Mercedes-Benz wall box charger^ installed to reduce this charging time by around 50%.

The electric motor also means less engine noise for passengers and drivers, making it even more luxurious. Additionally you can adjust the interior temperature remotely from your electronic key before you depart, again thanks to the electric motor.

A showcase for technology

Other features in the S 500 e include a multitude of active safety systems such as a 360° camera, automatic parking assistance and optional Driving Assistance package Plus.

The S-Class range is often considered a showcase for the latest and greatest technology from Mercedes-Benz – it should come as no surprise then that the plug-in hybrid technology not only retains the renowned Mercedes-Benz dynamic performance, but also offers astonishing fuel efficiency and even more luxury than ever before.
