Customers of Canberra-based Link Airways will soon be able to earn Velocity Frequent Flyer points and status credits through an expanded partnership with Virgin Australia and its loyalty program.

Beginning from 22 August, travellers on Link flights will earn two points for every dollar spent on Deal or Standard fares or five points per dollar paid on Freedom and Flexible fares.

Further, flyers booking Freedom and Flexible fares will gain access to Virgin Australia lounges in Brisbane, Sydney and Canberra to enjoy before boarding their flight.

Link Airways flies to 16 capital and regional airports in Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria and Tasmania, with the majority served from Brisbane.

Destinations beyond the east-coast capitals include Wollongong, Orange, Dubbo, Narrabri, Inverell, Coffs Harbour, Bundaberg and Essendon, among others.

“Today is very significant for our airline as we enable our customers to accrue Points through the renowned Velocity Frequent Flyer program and Link Airways is very proud to be working with the Velocity team,” said Link Airways CEO, Andrew Major.

“I am equally delighted that passengers travelling on our Flexible and Freedom fares can enjoy the great amenity and service that is available in the Virgin Australia Lounges in Brisbane, Canberra and Sydney before their Link Airways flight.

The Velocity tie-up is an expansion of an existing partnership between Link Airways and Virgin Australia, with the regional carrier currently operating up to nine of Virgin’s daily flights between Sydney and its Canberra hub using its 34-seat Saab 340B Plus turboprop aircraft.

Virgin’s re-entry to the national capital route in turn led to the withdrawal of Rex from the same route, which cited competitive pressure with three airlines connecting the two cities.

Fantastic news.

Link is a great operation and I’ve loved my flights with them. The lounge access is an amazing bonus I’d not have expected.

I truly hope they deepen their partnership with more flights to smaller ports. I love Links’ pairings between less than usual ports.
