A shame, but more so in terms of the loss of cargo capacity if they withdraw for (say) 12-18 months. I don't think their cramped product will be missed. The real loss would be if Singapore Airlines temporarily swaps out their Adelaide flights for a Scoot service.

I think Delta may have been hoping for Virgin metal on this route going forward. They don't have a limitless supply of A350s and with their 777s gone they'll need to make some tough decisions about the routes they continue to fly using their A350s. Not sure it is a given that SYD will necessarily...

I think we need to acknowledge the new economy here. There wont be sufficient demand to sustain two airlines in this country for many years to come. Accepting this, do we end up with a car-industry situation where the government spends billions subsidising a (relatively) small number of jobs? Sad...
