JAL Upgrades - Any experience with paid upgrades at check in? I'm traveling Sydney to Tokyo in economy and would like to know if people have been offered a cheap upgrade option at check in.

No JAL does not offer cheap paid upgrades at checkin, if you want Y+ or business you have to pay the fare difference of a walk up fare. They like to have their prem products reserved.
