Hi, I'm trying to figure out the best way to get to and from South America from Melbourne, within the continent (circa 8 countries), and within Brazil for WC (4 cities).

I have ~400k Qantas FF points, and have heard about the OneWorld South American explorer, as well as TAM explorer around Brazil. Does anyone have experience with these? There's very limited information available on the internet, and it seems that I have to call Qantas for the explorer fares.

Any help would be appreciated.

I cant answer your question about the south american deals, but can recommend QF from sydney. The flight runs the length of patagonia from sunrise. Sit on the rhs of the plane in any class for one of the greatest sights on earth.

I would use QF ff points unless there is a special fare available to you at the time of travel.Remember QF goes to Rio for short perod during the world cup.In regard  domestic travel in Brazil and south america ....buy local as it would be much cheaper than a explorer fare.

You can use TAM in Brasil but there is also Gol, Azul (Set up by the guy from Jet Blue), Avianca amongst others. You don't have to enter into the country via Sao Paulo or Rio, there are flights from Chile, Argentina and Uruguay to other cities in the country. Also for short distances, you can also take buses which have great service. Given the madness that are Brasilian airports normally you can consider that. If you have specific routes give us a yell and i'll give you some ideas. great to go to the cup, you will have a great time.
