I would argue that QF Platinum is worth more because it grants the parallel of oneworld Emerald, which is particularly valuable internationally (e.g. when flying CX/KA in Asia, BA/IB in Europe, AA/US in America, etc.), whereas the Skywards equivalent does not.

Agreed. A crunch point will come for Emirates. Perhaps not now but it will happen in the future as with all things in life. When that happens you're better off with a programme that pools benefits with partners and operates in a cooperative manner (most of the time).
I don't think Emirates will ever eat humble pie and be part of something bigger than itself.
