Return journey with different cabins.

I have flights to and from Bangkok QF code and metal. On the flight there it's Economy Saver on the way back it's Economy Flex. I would like to change only the return flight to Business (with $$). For some reason I cannot make any changes to my booking online in order to try.

I'm wondering if this sort of request is possible before I give them a call tomorrow. Thanks! :)

QF J fares cannot be combined with fares from lower cabins. If I recall correctly last year they announced J and F may be combined but when their website does not allow this kind of search.

The only possible way, though not guaranteed, is to try and upgrade the inbound after you have flown the outbound.

It would be good if you let others know how it goes :)

Would it not be possible to split the PNR?

Splitting a PNR is not an option. This term refers to creating a new PNR for a separate passenger that was originally booked under the PNR of a couple/group, NOT for separating the outbound and inbound components of a trip, unless these components were booked as separate one way fares.

Thank you both. Two good ideas I would never have thought of myself.  I'll give them a buzz and see if something can work. I'll be sure to mention if it works out and how.

Thanks again.

Not much sucesss. They wouldn't split the PNR (not sure if impossible or they just didn't want to) and they said that I would need to pay for the upgrade both ways even after flying the outbound in Y.

They offered to pay for the cabin class over the phone but quoted over $800 more than if I cancelled the booking then rebooked in J (which I have now done)

Hi Stevo

I flew with QF to Johannesburg from Sydney in March booked on a discounted return economy fare.  When I was there I wanted to upgrade to PE using $. I called the Customer Service Centre and they were able to upgrade me without too much hassle. It did however cost me $1000 to do so - but on that 14 hour flight, it was money well spent! haha

Good luck with the request and enjoy the trip.
