Travelling on Rex soon from Sydney. I am Etihad Guest Gold. Do you think I will be let into the VA lounge at all - is there any hope at all? It seems they have some kind of codeshare from searching on the web - does it extend to VA Lounges? Thanks a heap.

Possibly but unlikely. I travel Rex frequently (unfortunately) and i am VA Gold. I am allowed in the Sydney Virgin lounge very very occasionally if I am travelling Rex.

Don't count on it.  Rex is an independent airline with no alliances, as far as I know.

Keep in mind that their Saab prop planes are very noisy.  Noise-cancelling headphones are essential, or at least earplugs.

Yescan attest to the ultra loud noise of the props of the Saab 340. Headphones absolute must, but lovely Rex are very strict on their electronic devices switched off for take off and landing still. So sometimes you can only use electronic things for approx 1/3 of the flight time.

Its a sneaky trick, but the self admission kiosks ( aka where you scan your card) don't check whether you have a VA flight that day, they just confirm your Velocity number and status...

A friend of mine who works in the lounge told this so I've done it now a few times when picking up friends etc.

Avoid eye contact just a squick smile with the front reception staff and you should be fine haha.

Hold... Ignore this sorry, Just noticed you are Etihad Guest not Velocity Gold ( early morning skim reading....)

I don't think you'll be able to gain access then but perhaps worth asking, if its quiet stranger things have happened. Rex do have a lounge in sydney but not sure of the entrance requirements...

You could pony up $33 for a one-off entry to the Rex lounge.

Speaking as an ex Rex lounge member/Rex Flyer,  Don't waste your money on Rex lounge entry. Toast is as good as it gets and some chocolates in a bowl and cheese and crackers.
