Posting of status cards.

Morning all. I just have a quick one for all of you out there. Does anyone know how long it will take Qantas to post out new frequent flyer status card. I will reach a new tier at the end of November and I need that new card for December 23rd. Surely they can get it to me within that time frame.

Whilst nice to have, you don't actually need the card at all. QFs system usually gets updated immediately and indeed when I have flown, I have on a couple of occasions pbeen pleasantly surprised when the check-in staff have told me my status levle has increased.

As Richard said. I don't think I have ever used my card, it's always printed on the boarding pass for lounge access.

I disagree, I regurly use the card! In fact I wish it were a bit sturdier, like a proper credit card. Here's how I use mine:

  • On domestic flights, to flash at the lounge and express security lanes; lightning fast verification.
  • Internationally at oneworld partner airline check-ins, when the printed itinerary doesn't necessarilly contain status information,
(and might necessitate a lengthier check to verify eligibility)
  • used the card at airports that have express lanes, even when I'm not flying on a partner airline... I did this at AMS just a two weeks ago.
  • use the card for Qantas Cash facility, (but IIRC a change in status shouldn't affect the functionality of the old card)

Mine took about 1 month just to get to Brisbane. (I think the office is base in Melbourne)

You may need them for partner airlines which is the only issue. For QF flights you should have no issue without it.

I've always received mine within a month or so, so you should be fine. You can always call QF and ask for a hurry along if possible

Even still, logging into the app will show a live and current status which should be sufficient for checking in / lounge access etc.

It's updated immediately on Amadeus (and even used to be on Qube, as it was on Merlin at Ansett, back in the day!) so lounge, res & all ground staff can very clearly see on anyone's reloc the second status is achieved. Agreed that it is really only non-Amadeus OW/other partners such as AA (who use Sabre) that you would need it for, as others have quite rightly stated.
