Hoping someone either knows or has experience with my query. I am Velocity Platinum and will soon be in Europe requiring a flight from London (any) to Venice. My understanding is, as long as I book using an Air Berlin code (AB) I will earn points and status credits to Velocity. But does this mean that I will be granted lounge access as well even if the airline operating the flight is BA for example? The option I'm looking at is LHR - VCE via TXL. Would I be granted access to the BA lounge at Heathrow?
From my understanding (am also Platinum) using a AirBerlin flight you will earn frequent flyer miles, no status points and only longe access in Germany
You will not get access to BA lounges for booking your flight on Air Berlin as an Velocity Platinum member (unless of course your ticket is in business class).
BA lounges are only open to OneWorld premium members; the fact that your ticket is booked with Air Berlin and Air Berlin partners with Virgin is of no concern for British Airways.
Your only other possibility is another partner of Velocity - Virgin Atlantic.
I'd suggest you check out their admission rules - maybe you could book a Virgin Atlantic codeshare flight to Venice instead. In that case you might potentially be able to get into their lounge in Heathrow.
You will not get Velocity Points, status credits or lounge access unless the flight is operated by Virgin Atlantic itself (which does not fly to Venice).

Not necessarily.
Air Berlin flights (operated by Air Berlin itself) will also earn points and credits.
However, if an Air Berlin flight is operated by British Airways, there will be neither Velocity points, nor credits, nor lounge access.

Actually, sorry - no.

Don't believe any AB metal to LHR, so your on a codeshare and would not expect LHR lounge access
