I work in Health sector. I am fortunate to have a decent paying job which allows me to purchase an annual overseas trip to Europe in Business. I fly a reasonable amount domestically in economy but being a VA platinum member, I have been upgraded a few times when the flights are packed. I doubt there are many people here flying for work in First unless they are the president or chairman of ASX listed company. In my previous job in London, the travel policy allowed the president and his 'companion' to travel to Australia in First, it was easily over 20,000 pounds + accomodation. Easily someones salary in London!
Before I launched AusBT, I was a technology journalist and Sid (my business partner and AusBT's publisher) was a motoring journalist, and in both of those fields there's quite a bit of travel to launches, expos, as well as tech conferences etc, with vendors paying for that. International business class was the norm but I definitely noticed a trend towards economy among some tech vendors, even for Sydney-London – ouch!
David, Loving this website and the infomation that it carries. At work on my web browser, I have on my tab opened : 2 personal email accounts, LinkedIn, facebook and AusBT
Software development here. While the need to physically travel to meet clients overseas and domestically is lessening, it's definitley still necessary sometimes and I like to anyway in order to get away and do something more interesting than sitting behind the desk.
I'm an exec. in the accommodation industry and mostly here for window shopping and getting some insider tips from the other players in the AustBT universe. I don't hold status with any airline, but love the bargain hunting and cutting through the red tape of airlines.
I always though AustBT was David's brain child and then came Chris and Sid. Anywhose, keep up the good work.
Travel Agent here. Don't get to travel as much as I like - overseas 2 times a year and domestically 4-5 times a year. Whenever work sends me somewhere its in economy but I try to use points to upgrade wherever possible. On this site pretty much everyday as the information here is always out by around 1-2 days faster than our head office emals.
I work in Tourism Marketing (Selling Aus to the rest of the world). Travelling internationally a bit, anywhere between 3-6 times a year (Asia, NZ, sometime NA and Europe too). Also various domestic trips (average 6-8 times a year). Unfortuately work only covers full flexi economy for international trips so I always try to book day time flights to and from Asia, or get PE (if available) and pay the difference myself. If it's Europe or NA trips, I try to use points to upgrade to Business or just pay for the difference myself if it's a good fare. LOVE AusBT, great space to give and receive useful tips and latest news. Well done guys and keep up the good work. On a side note, would you consider upgrading the site to be mobile friendly? Sometimes it's hard to get around when checking the site out on the phone.
