is it possible to make Gold in your first year of membership?? I have just hit Silver after 2 months and will make Gold in about 6 weeks flying economy Syd-Sin-Syd frequently.

I have nasty feeling that the Miles count will reset now I'm at Gold and I'll need another 50k miles to get there..their call centre was no help and all they do is look at he website which I don't find helpful. I made Platinum from zero with UA within 10 months and wondering of Kris Flyer is similar or meaner?

What cabin are you doing your travel in?

Hi Booster,

With SQ KF Gold,  you "travel"  from  0 to 50K and along the way hit Silver and then Gold.  It doesn't matter which cabin you're flying in, except that J or P cabins get you added bonus earning capacity to get to Gold faster. You'll stay Gold for 12 months from achieving it and that becomes your anniversary date. There's no requirement to fly on SQ metal to re-qualify either,  just fly on STAR in eligible booking classes (watch out for that.)  Added bonus (i)  if you travel domestically on Virgin, is that you can use their lounges as an SQ KF Gold and (ii) you can earn credit card sign-up bonuses of Virgin miles and convert those to SQ to boost your balance.   KF is not to be confused with SQ's PPS Club, which is a status recognition programme for J and P flyers only.   But the only added really tangible benefit of PPS is that you can use the SIN Silver Kris Lounge rather than their uber-crap KF Gold lounge in SIN.
So SQ KF is good and not like CX's  Marco Polo programme where you are re-set at each tier achievement and start again.
Now, here's the tip; since you're already accruing in SQ KF, you need 50 per year.  Whereas with TG Royal Orchid Plus, you need 50K if you do it in one year and 40K per year over two years, plus you get a two year Gold membership once you hit Gold,  along with a one class return upgrade voucher.   And they book that trip in mileage accrual booking classes to boot!   No Virgin lounges in AU with TG ROP Gold though, so be aware of that, nor is there a points transfer arrangement from Virgin for those credit card bonuses.   So although you may not want points in every programme in the land, as soon as you hit SQ FK Gold,  this is the time to decide if the next  50K to be earned is parked back in SQ or you're switching to TG.    Let us know how you get on!   Cheers.

Many thanks for your reply and yes I did hit the 50k miles mark and was upgraded to Gold. I joined in Dec 16 and reached gold in late April with economy  Syd-Sin-Syd trips. I agree that the the Gold KF lounge in T3 at Changi is really rubbish.

I don't even bother to go there now as the food's better downstairs and so are the bathrooms. It's a shame that Im capped out at Gold as we have changed travel policy and I won't get up the front anymore.

Hi Flying Visit. Today I re qualified for KF Gold for the second time since Feb . IE: 52k miles from Feb to July. Im guessing Im now sorted at KF Gold through until 2019 so a reasonable result I suppose. I am going to drop them a line and appeal to their sense of 'fair play' . I've done 30 or so legs with them this calendar year and can't progress to PPS due to economy travel. I do like your suggestion on Thai, thanks however Im about to hit QF Gold in late August so plan to go all out on QF (Syd -HKG and Syd -Sin) and get to Platinum by late Sept. I wonder if SQ might status match a QF Platinum..who knows Will let you know how it goes!

I was a KF gold then decided to use my points to part pay for my BNE to LHR flights. Didn't realise this meant I lost Gold the next year. Is SQ unique in basing their levels on mileage points rather than status points?
