Looks like Qantas is keeping the single daily A330 of QF71 and QF72 on Perth-Singapore for longer than just the peak summer period. It's now scheduled as replacing a double-daily Boeing 737 past March 31, 2019.

And they’ve cancelled the 1625 flight sticking us on QF71 the next day, costing us a day of our weekend getaway

71 on the same morning doesn’t work for us and we chose qf due to afternoon flight at a competitive business fare.
Will be thinking twice before booking with them again

Because of a schedule change? Guess they’re the only airline in the world that makes schedule changes then.

Great news and I have certainly flown them again on the route since it has been put back to the 330 business suite 👍. A good option for QF only Adelaide folks also who can take a morning flight from Adelaide to Perth and hop on the mid day 330 to SIN rather than back tracking East.

Recently came back from Colombo (watching England win the test series) via SIN to PER. QF at some point after booking but prior to departure (yes I know they can do this anytime) changed the departure time of QF72 so UL308 arrived in SIN after QF72 departed so got put on QF36 overnight to MEL then back to PER the following day. Appreciated the status credits and points for the inconvenience but would have rather slept in my own bed that night.

A330 on the PER/SIN route is fully appreciated but unsure as to the scheduling.
Anyone know the reasons? Are there specific connections? Can’t believe anyone from PER would connect via SIN for LHR, instead of direct on QF9/10.

There is no connections really besides the odd jet star flight to BKK etc etc but it’s timing is perfect for WA folk who are using SIN as a final destination and back in your own bed that night on return. If your coming from MEL/BNE/SYD it’s certainly not a credible option as you need to overnight in Perth as you found out which is pointless when you have your own overnight flight.

Well they've got to do something to try and keep folks loyal. SQ usually have four flights a day on 777, 787 or A330.

Yes technically a schedule change but it’s also a halving of frequency, that in our case means we have to fly the next day, which reduces our weekender by a day. The extra night in Singapore meant more to me than a lie flat bed for a daytime 5 hour flight. Qf chopping and changing all the time leads to them being less reliable for flying when you want to. My point is that schedule can be important too, not just the product

It’s cheaper to go to LHR via SIN than the qf9 direct, so people might choose that. Also connects to Finnair, MAS, JAL and now AF/KLM

That depends if you're seated in the back of the bus or "front of the coach" (bad pun intended).

I think more economy travellers prefer the A380 over the 787 and capacity wise the 380 suits them better. I often travel in economy but do go up to J class sometimes. When I do, I still prefer the 380 to Europe with QF or Emirates.

Travelers from Darwin, Adelaide and western regional areas.
Timing may not be great, but it's good to have an alternative anyway. It's linking up with QF 1 which is all that matters, but I'd prefer a layover night in Singapore than many other locations anyway.
