Hi all, international trip coming up with Thai airways coming up, travelling through Melbourne (3pm), Bangkok (evening and day) and Milan (midday). Looking to know which lounges (especially Bangkok, Star Alliance website says there are 17!)

Thanks

I haven't flown J or F out of BKK on Star Alliance, so can't speak to class-restricted lounges. If *Gold, I prefer the NZ lounge in MEL and the BR lounge in BKK.

If you're flying Thai first class, the first class lounge is naturally the best pick in Bangkok (at least, for food and drink). But otherwise, in Thai business class or with Star Alliance Gold, the Singapore Airlines, EVA Air and Turkish Airlines lounges are also worth exploring and are much better than Thai's own business class lounges. Singapore Airlines' lounge arguably feels the most 'premium', EVA's has funky mood lighting and showers, and Turkish has showers as well as free massages. If you have time, try them all!

There aren't actually 17 Star Alliance lounges in Bangkok - some will appear as duplicates, and others as contract lounges that only one (or a set list) of Star Alliance airlines have access to. The only true Star Alliance lounges in Bangkok are operated by Thai, Turkish, EVA and SIA.

Singapore Airlines just opened a new Lounge in BKK. Hands-down the best business class lounge in BKK. Trumping the excellent lounges of CX, EK and QR. Full bar with bartenders, extensive hot buffet, lots of seating and centrally located in the D wing. Have not tried getting in with a non-SQ star alliance ticket and my Thai Gold status. Thai have similarly just opened up the right hand side of their main lounge. Which also has a better bar and better found options.

Anything but the TG lounges, which are disgusting.

I agree with one "but". The extended new wing to the TG lounge is an improvement. At the very least it has increased the amount of space, reduced overcrowding and added a better bar area. That said, the bartenders have a lot to learn. My first order of a martini was over iced (watery) and came with salt around the rim :) !

LOL...not lounge related but it reminded of a time I got a coffee and the barista put 2 spoons of salt instead of sugar....it was the most grossest thing i ever tasted.
