iSelect to offer Qantas Frequent Flyer points for insurance, energy

Customers of iSelect will be able to earn Qantas Points from next week, when purchasing private health insurance and energy products, in a move set to broaden the reach of the Qantas Frequent Flyer program.

As of Monday October 28, Qantas Frequent Flyer members will be able to earn points on any spend in these categories irrespective of the actual service provider – although it’s worth noting that any other spend with iSelect, including car and life insurance, is not eligible for points accrual.

Unlike traditional methods that tie members to a particular service provider (for example, Qantas’ partnership with QBE for travel insurance), these arrangements will give Frequent Flyer members complete freedom to choose the best product and service for their needs, whilst still amassing frequent flyer points.

Those purchasing private health insurance through iSelect will earn one point per $1 spent for the first year of their policy, calculated on the gross insurance premium.

When it comes to energy providers, Qantas Frequent Flyers could earn:

  • 1,000 points for a ‘gas purchase’, or
  • 1,500 points for an ‘electricity purchase’, or
  • 2,000 points for ‘one electricity and one gas purchase (including bundled products)’
