I have two questions-

1. How many A380s does Qantas have in service currently? I read a report only 6, but that seems very low to me?

2. Does anyone know why the two that were scrapped, were the chosen ones to be scrapped? I don’t believe they were the oldest, so wondering what made the choice for those two specifically.

Thanks

Correction. There were 12, but 2 were destroyed, which I expect Qantas now regrets. 2 are currently in Abu Dhabi for service or refurb and Abu Dhabi is taking forever with its work, so that effectively leaves 8 in current active service, all of which have been refurbed.

I thought the 2 that were withdrawn from service are/were being used for spare parts for the 10 that are remaining.

Thanks

OQE and OQF were the only two A380's in the Qantas fleet that hadn't undergone a landing gear replacement after 12 years. So it was more cost effective to retire them from service and utilize the parts to maintain the remainder of the Qantas A380 fleet.

Thanks all for the answers.

Does anyone have any insight into Question 2? Why those specific A380s mothballed?

Mothballed for spare parts to use on the Qantas A380 fleet. Why those two specifically, I'm not sure.
