Australia’s Gold Coast is living up to its name once again, with another glittering brand – this time St. Regis Hotels and Resorts – revealing plans to take up residence in the holiday mecca.

Bespoke butler service, cascading waterfalls and a sleek sky bar with stellar views are a tease of what’s in store.

Opening in 2027 – the first tower of the $1.7 billion La Pelago resort at Budds Beach in Surfers Paradise – The St. Regis Gold Coast is set to feature 185 guest rooms and suites, a pampering wellness spa and lounge, along with a restaurant, signature St. Regis Bar and more.

After arrival, guests will check-in at the hotel's main lobby on level 42.

An expansive porte cochère with tiered waterfall, tropical gardens and timber panelling will greet guests on arrival, leading the way to light-filled public areas and an impressive lobby on level 42.

Around 100 apartments, to be known as the Crystal Club, will fill the upper floors of the tower, with the one-, two and three-bedroom residences accessible from a private elevator alongside the lobby and enjoying full access to the resort facilities.

While details on room features are yet to be revealed, designs for the La Pelago show interiors adorned in a warm, neutral colour palette with high ceilings and plush furnishings.

The St. Regis Gold Coast will be the fourth Marriott property on the Gold Coast when it opens, joining the existing JW Marriott Gold Coast Resort and Sheraton Grand Mirage Resort Gold Coast, and the recently-announced Ritz-Carlton Gold Coast – opening in 2026.

Surfers Paradise is well known for its relaxed coastal lifestyle, with a myriad of fresh bars, restaurants and even beach clubs ushering in a new era for the long-time holiday favourite.

When it opens, The St. Regis will be in good company amid the city’s flourishing luxury hotel scene, joining The Langham Gold Coast – opened in June – and the freshly-upgraded QT Gold Coast.

I haven't been to Surfers for about 4 years.  As well as all the new hotel developments, has there been any progress in cleaning up the streets?  Last time I was there, it was full of tattoo parlours, cheap souvenirs and shopfronts flogging dodgy timeshares; Cavill Avenue was basically a no go zone after dark.

If these problems aren't fixed, guests at these hotels will basically be marooned within their resorts.

Nope, hardly any good food and service is sub par at majority of places from Byron all the way up.
