China Eastern is also launching Shanghai-Auckland in December, going daily from January. Officially this is a "seasonal" service through March, but likely to be made permanent if all goes well. This will mean a second long-haul route with competition for Air New Zealand (the other being Honolulu).

You're right, the "QF" numbers in the article don't add up. Unless you factor in the new JQ flights and then you get a net loss of 15 on the SYD/MEL/BNE routes. Slashing BNE-AKL from 14 to 5? Yikes. Tasman traffic is rising, but nobody wants to fly QF... They didn't give JQ ADL-AKL long; only s...

Assuming you are Australian and have never been sentenced to a prison term you can use SmartGate to clear immigration (ie. where the Customs officers are). As long as you are 'accepted' by SmartGate you will only interact with an MPI/Biosecurity inspector who will not be interested in your reason...

You will be able to check in for NZ175 as soon as Air NZ check-in opens around 0400.If you are very early and the first person on the flight to make it to Customs there may be a small delay while they 'open' the flight for processing.There will be plenty of aircraft to look at between 1100 and 14...

No way.Air NZ is cutting Cairns to a seasonal service. If they can't fill Cairns year-round there's no hope of filling Darwin.Canberra is the only Australian destination I can envisage Air NZ adding to its list.
