How early can I check in at Auckland?

There's two lounges I have access to that I want to try out, and lots to explore in general, so I would like to spend a good 5 hours or so airside of passport control. I know I can check in 2 days ahead in Singapore, but at the other extreme, Perth only opens check-in 3 hours before the flight. My hunch is that Auckland is somewhere in between. The airport website says they recommend passengers check in at least 3 hours before (ie: the latest recommended time) but no mention of what's the earliest time. On NZ175, J, if it makes a difference.

Hi Tronek

I believe it is more to do with the Airline rather than the Airport when asserting check in times. I believe NZ will be quite leniant as most of thier international passengers will be connecting from domestic locations. Though two days might be pusing it! - there is only so much time you can kill at AKL!

The Premium check in facitly means you will be from check in to airside in less than 10 minutes which will give you plenty of time to explore the lounges.

Most NZ international flights depart early morning or late at night so you will be able to make the most of the lounge(s). I would make a b-line for the Koru lounge as it preceeds the windowless offerings of the QF and Emperor lounges.

Have fun!

Thanks Koru17

I'll try for 4-5 hours. If the Emperor lounge has no window I might just pop in for a quick look around and head to the Koru. Flight is at 2:30pm so there will be plenty to see out the windows.

You will be able to check in for NZ175 as soon as Air NZ check-in opens around 0400.

If you are very early and the first person on the flight to make it to Customs there may be a small delay while they 'open' the flight for processing.

There will be plenty of aircraft to look at between 1100 and 1400 - SQ, TG, MH, CX, EK etc.
