Here is Singapore Airlines’ all-new Melbourne lounge
Travellers can bid farewell to ‘the dungeon’ as SQ heads upstairs.

Singapore Airlines is set to open a swish new SilverKris Lounge at Melbourne Airport before the year is out, and it might just be Melbourne’s best business class lounge.
As previously reported by Executive Traveller, Singapore Airlines is moving out of the downstairs ‘dungeon’ lounge level and into a larger, light-filled location with views over the airfield.

The new SilverKris Lounge is now being built on the third floor of the T2 international terminal, above Gate 10 – adjacent to the Emirates Lounge and on the same floor as the Qantas First Lounge and the independent Marhaba Lounge.
In fact, this space was previously occupied by the Aspire Lounge, which began life as Etihad Airways’ lush premium lounge before being rebranded to The House.

(So where is the Aspire Lounge going? A spokesperson for Aspire parent Swissport tells Executive Traveller its lounge "will be temporarily relocating within Melbourne Airport, ahead of the opening of our brand new lounge later next year.")
With a footprint of around 750m2, the new digs are estimated to be 30% larger than the current SilverKris Lounge and able to seat more than 170 travellers – alleviating crowding ahead of each of the five daily flights to Singapore.
This provides ample room for Singapore Airlines to retain separate business and first class wings (you can spy the marbled entry to the first class section at the entrance to the lounge, which is adorned with the airline's signature batik floral motif).

The new lounge continues the refinement of SQ’s familiar Home Away from Home theme, with distinct residential-themed zones for relaxing, dining and working.
Visitors to the Singapore Airlines SilverKris Lounges at Perth, London and of course Changi T3 and T2 will know what to expect.
And we have to say, Melbourne's new Singapore Airlines lounge looks effortlessly stylish without being ‘shouty’.

The tables between those chairs will sport benchtop wireless charging points plus AC and USB-C outlets.
The dining room of the business class lounge will feature a live kitchen, just like Singapore Airlines’ Perth and Changi lounges, for a solid upgrade to the pre-flight experience enjoyed by premium travellers and frequent flyers.

And remember, this is not just for Singapore Airlines passengers – the lounge will also be available to business class passengers and Gold-grade frequent flyers on Star Alliance airlines such as Air India, Air New Zealand, Thai Airways, Turkish Airlines, and United Airlines.
Also on the door list: Virgin Australia Velocity Beyond, Gold, Platinum and Platinum Plus members departing on Singapore Airlines flights.

As I understand it, this is the first of many lounge moves over the next 3-5 years. As part of the current T2 redevelopment and expansion, it appears that all the lower level (dungeon) lounges will close with the space being used to improve arrival facilities on that level. This means other lounges on that level such as QF Business, Amex and Plaza Premium and, I assume NZ which is a level lower again, will all be relocated...not before time

This upgrade cannot come quick enough. The current lounge must be the worst SQ lounge in the world.

Great read, proving nothing escapes Squire Flynn's eye. Mind you, the original Etihad Lounge was pretty darn good, so trust SQ to up the ante in style and class. Can't wait to try it.

Wow, what a beautiful lounge. Agreed, this will easily the best business class lounge at MEL T2! And with SQ departures from 6AM to 11:35PM it should be pretty much wide open for all the other Star Alliance airline flights too. The NZ lounge is about to become a bit of a 'ghost town' except for people who don't know better, which IMHO is sadly most people!

I am usually flying Air NZ from MEL. It's often a bit crowded and have often wondered about trying SIA lounge. However, flew MEL-SIN flying Business recently. It is. The. Worst. Lounge. Internationally. Ever. That's all.....welcome the new one for sure.

Notice how QF keeps talking about it for the media and the cameras and the attention but still you wait, and wait, and wait again. First announced in Feb 2023 and nowhere in sight.
Meanwhile, SQ announces their upgrade in Nov 2025, for 'late 26 early 27' and then before you know it, it's nearly here - fast tracked for Sep 26, less than a year later in all it's glory. Well done.
