Virgin Australia to expand Perth airport lounge

In brief: Virgin Australia will extend its Perth lounge by year's end, adding 100 seats to the existing lounge.

Martin Daley, Virgin Australia’s Group Executive for Product & Guest Services, told Australian Business Traveller that the airline was looking to claim “some unused space around the lounge that we can expand into by the end of this year.”

Daley says the space will add around 100 seats to the current lounge, “and that’s space we need, as Perth is a growing area of course and we now have now have our A330s going to Perth as well.”

However, the lounge won’t be given a make-over along the same lines as the recently-opened Melbourne and Brisbane lounges, given that Virgin Australia will move to a new terminal in 2013 as part of the $515m upgrade for Perth Airport.

Also in the works is a new lounge at Mackay, which Daley says “will accommodate around 60-70 people. We’re working with our architect on the design, but there will be some core themes we can take from the design of the Melbourne and Brisbane lounges.”
