Real, don't forget the aircraft that you'd be on. My understanding is that BA uses 777s whereas QF uses A380s for this route. The BIG difference is the noise level for passengers.
Regards timings for the sectors, I'm pretty happy with the times SYD-DBX-LHR. QF1 leave SYD at 4pm, and once the big meal is over by mid-evening, with a few drinks, I'm happy to then get some good sleep time.

Hmm, I personally would fly neither - Try Virgin Atlantic, Singapore Airlines or Cathay Pacific, who have the best business classes and lounges in the sky.
However, out of a choice between QF or BA, i would (I cant believe I am saying this) go for Qantas. The better seat and service is definately worth it. Dont worry about layover times, no matter where you fly ALL long haul flights disrupt your body patterns.
Happy flying!

I suppose everyone is different but I think Qantas provides better sleeping patterns. On the flight from Australia to DXB you can just snooze every now and then and not stress too much about sleep, and then on the leg from DXB through to LHR you can sleep the whole way, getting to your destination much more refreshed and revived. (Again, maybe everyone is different).

Hi,
I know this just adds to your fare and is are longer and indirect, but still includes a relatively short connection and better seats (the Cathay new business class):
